The work of local photographers Bonita Boothby and Richard Plourde will be on display during the month of May in the Woman’s Hospital Association’s revolving art gallery at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

Boothby is a self-taught photographer from Maine who started taking pictures of her parents’ beautiful flower gardens when she was in high school with her first Canon 35MM camera. She enjoys all the captivating sights the outdoors has to offer, whether it’s an impending storm, a visiting bird, a blooming flower, or raindrops on the grass. One of his favorite things to do is wander through gardens, woods and coastal areas capturing inspirational moments from a distance or up close. She has shown her work in several venues, including Bear Bones Beer.

A resident of Lewiston, Plourde’s passion for creating art took many forms, including a long career as a professional graphic designer with the Geiger-owned, Lewiston-based publication Farmers’ Almanac, where he designed each annual edition. More recently, he volunteered his creative skills to create an attractive new website for the Androscoggin Historical Society, which was later named the Society’s “Volunteer of the Year”. Richard’s latest creative interest now focuses on photography where he has become known locally for his stunning photos of Lewiston-Auburn highlighting popular locations and iconic structures; you can see many of his photos promoting the city, events and economic development.

Artwork on display can be purchased through the WHA Gift Shop located adjacent to the main lobby of Central Maine Medical Center. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale benefits CMMC patients. Due to the hospital’s security measures due to the pandemic, the art gallery is currently only available to staff, patients and their designated visitors.
